Every university should free its students for a fall break. And its faculty. I've long thought this, and now I live in blessed NC, the state that does everything just right.
We met up this morning with some friends--a high school chum from my hubby's youth and his family have become university folk at a nearby city--at the zoo.
We admired a man-made geyser and all of the exotic animals, of course. We basked in the hot October sun. (Record highs here this week. 83 degrees today. Wowza!) Thank goodness for sunglasses, slings, lots of cool water, and scores of gorgeous trees offering luxuriant shade. The good NC folks also know how to plan a good zoo.
I'll have to forgive them for scolding me over my "dangerous baby carrier." (Ahem. This is a safe ring sling, Ma'am. The dangerous ones are elasticized, commercialized, baggy, icky superstore items. I am a good mommy.) Besides, the trees, really, make up for anything.
We all enjoyed the ride.

Looks like an amazing way to spend the day!
